As you know, last week we celebrated the hair ties launch at Long Manes & Candy Canes. Many of you couldn’t make it due to the long distance, but we know you were down for it.
At the party we held the premier screening of the newest video. It shows a little different side of The Longhairs.

Thanksgiving, a day we all sit around with the ones we love, tell stories, watch football, eat till we pass out, and most importantly share gratitude for our relationships and our lives. It’s a day to reflect on everything we are truly grateful for.

Yo Longhairs! Pumped up to announce Longhairs Quick Tips is now LIVE! What is Quick Tips? Quick Tips speaks to one of our fundamental mission objectives, to educate men with long hair. You see, most women have grown up since childhood learning how to take care of their hair: brushing, braiding, styling, washing, caring for, etc. Many of us guys didn’t have that luxury. Even if we had long hair as a young man we certainly weren’t braiding and brushing each other’s hair at recess. Long hair indoctrination passed us by.
As a longhair there’s great pride in lettin’ it ride. You learn about yourself and your hair, and together you and your trusty strands grow an inseparable bond. These strands are the ones that have been with you since the beginning. The old vets, who were once young recruits leading the charge to your shoulders. These days though, they hold the line as the last four inches on your glorious head of hair.
My art studio is in the same building as The Longhairs’ headquarters. I knew them back when their hair was merely shoulder length, and the idea for the Longhairs was in its inception.
“Long hair, don’t care” is the pervasive internet meme du jour. However, in my previous post, The Struggle of an Athletic Long Hair, I showed the athletic longhair should care. Because if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail, right? Well if you don’t plan to do something with your hair before you compete then you’re gonna have problems, which may include getting your ass kicked.
“Cry in the dojo, laugh on the battlefield,” an old proverb that pops into my mind as I lay on the jiu-jitsu mat with my long hair dripping sweat into my eyes. The warrior that coined that phrase must have been a longhair as he understands all too well the struggles of training with a mane. This made me wonder, from mixed martial artists to football players, how many professional athletes chose to rock the establishment and don streaming locks despite the obvious disadvantage?
Scientists, some of the most respected, prestigious, and forward thinking individuals in society. They broaden our horizons, give us new angles, and make our lives easier through invention and innovation. However, throughout history, most fail to acknowledge that many of these geniuses rocked absolutely killer manes. From Albert Einstein to Archimedes, these legends graced us not only with their scientific prowess, but their genius hair.
Chances are you know at least one man or boy with long hair. He might be a family member, boyfriend or husband, a casual acquaintance, or just a Facebook friend you don’t remember ever meeting. It could be someone you’ve known for years who always had short hair, but recently made the life decision to grow it out. We’ve met more men with long hair in the past three months than in both of our lifetimes combined. Since Long Manes & Candy Canes we’ve been handing out referral cards to every longhair we see. We started with a box of 2000. Now we’re down to 50, meaning there are 1950 longhairs referral cards out there in the world. Hopefully they’ve fallen into the right hands.
Alex conquered the Persian Empire, William charged the English lines, and Bartholomew raised the jolly roger. Of the great warriors through ancient, medieval and contemporary history, some fought for freedom, some for honor and glory, others in the name of tyranny. Whatever their motive, each of these warriors had one thing in common: they graced the fields of battle with long tresses, streaming locks and flowing manes. These captains, chiefs and commanders represent the greatest longhair warriors of all-time.
Have you ever wondered if you should cut your long hair? The obvious answer is no, you should not cut your long hair “off.” But if you’ve been growing for a number of years you might be thinking about getting a trim, which there are mixed opinions about. Should I trim it or not? Will trimming make my hair grow faster? What can I do about these annoying short hairs around my ears and neckline? As it turns out, we have a professional hair cutter and certified longhair right here on our block.
It’s no secret long hair on men is considered “unprofessional.” There are plenty of jobs out there where you can’t have long hair. To be a man with long hair is to have limited vocational options. That’s why we created the Longhair Professional Series. It’s purpose: We aim to reinforce the belief for every longhair: “Yes, I can be a longhair and be a professional/be taken seriously/make a good living. I don’t have to be ‘conventional.’”
San Diego, California February 20, 2015 For Immediate Release The Longhairs have become aware of a video, “Stop the Knot – Derick Watts & The Sunday Blues,” released on YouTube Feb 18, 2015. The Longhairs aren’t particularly fond of the ‘top knot’ hair style with shaved sides. If you’re going long, go long all the way bro. Still, a modest head nod for at least growing some of your hair.
