A Universe of Super-Flow

For longhairs and Marvel fans alike, I bring you the complete and definitive catalog of Marvel movie characters with long hair. I’m gonna write this from the heart, because this is, afterall, my passion project.

Just before Disney+’s WandaVision dropped in January, I rescreened all 23 Marvel films in chronological order. Where did that bring me? Back to this post.

Image

WARNING: Marvel and Hair Spoilers ahead.

The last time I updated this post was April 23, 2019, as I anxiously awaited the Avenger’s Endgame April 26 release date, and I ended up watching the epic conclusion to Phase 3 four times in theaters. I didn’t want it to end.

Luckily for all of us, it didn’t. Spiderman Far From Home proved to be the perfect epilogue to Endgame. Now we wait, and wait, and wait for Black Widow to be released.

For 12 years now, Marvel Studios' advancements and accomplishments have echoed throughout the movie and television industry. Last year, Disney gave Feige, Favreau and company the keys to Star Wars’ Mandalorian and look how that turned out.

Warner Bros wanted a piece of the action so bad, they poached James Gunn for DC’s misfit team-up movie, Suicide Squad 2. Long story short, Marvel Studios has the secret sauce and everyone wants a taste. I’m just here to admire and enjoy it.

Ok, back to the hair.

Here at The Longhairs, we too have accomplished a unique feat in history: the compilation of a thoroughly comprehensive list of Marvel movie characters with long hair, big and small, heroes and villains, from the awkward stage to flowing super-manes.

Here you will find chronicled all of the boys and men with long hair featured in Phases 1-3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Iron Man and ending with Spiderman Far From Home.

With WandaVision officially starting off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for general audiences, this will be the last update to this post. Watch for our next post diving into Phase 4.

Thor with long hair

Editorial Notes:

While we love and miss the Netflix shows DareDevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and The Defenders, there will only be a few honorable mentions from these shows. There are no mentions from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Characters are shown in order of appearance.

WARNING:

Hair spoilers for Iron Man 3 and Thor Ragnarok ahead.

Marvel Movie Characters With Long Hair

PHASE 1

Computer Nerd/Amadeus Cho - The Incredible Hulk

The first official Marvel movie character with long hair is technically in a deleted scene. This man praises the pizza delivery man, Bruce Banner, as a hero. For bringing pizza.
The pizza guy in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Ivan Vanko/Whiplash - Iron Man 2

Maybe if Iron Man 2’s main antagonist spent a little less time trying to destroy Tony Stark, and a little more time washing that hair, he’d be happier.
Ivan Fanko in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Ivan Vanko’s Cellmate - Iron Man 2

It really took us out of the movie when they showed one longhair betraying another. That wouldn’t happen in real life.
Image

Thor Odinson - Thor 1, 2, 3, Avengers 1, 2, 3, 4

The Mighty Thor, Son of Odin, God of Thunder, Our favorite Avenger. Believe it or not, he’s a big fan of “The Shockers” collection from Hair Ties For Guys. We know, his hair got cut, AGAINST HIS WILL! You will pay, Stan Lee, you will pay.

The Shockers - Hair Ties For Guys

Odin AllFather/Borson - Thor 1, 2, 3

Thor’s legendary father. Wise and powerful King of Asgard.
Image

Loki Laufeyson - Thor 1, 2, 3, Avengers 1, 3

Thor’s adoptive brother, secret frost giant, god of mischief and among the most prolific Marvel movie characters with long hair. Now…time variant? More on that in the next blog.

Loki dark long hair

Volstagg - Thor 1, 2, 3

Great friend to Thor, 1 of the Warriors 3. He and his red mane helped stop Loki from stealing the Asgardian throne. We were able to get him some Epic Cleanse Shampoo and Ideal Conditioner to tame his mane before his untimely murder by the Goddess of Death, Hela. RIP

Hogun - Thor 1, 2, 3

Great friend to Thor, 1 of the Warriors 3. We get to watch him go from a small top knot to an incredible flow throughout these 3 movies. He loved rocking The Black Ties. Also slaughtered by Hela. RIP
Hogun marvel long hair

The Foldover Extra - Thor

Blink and you’ll miss him. We had to include this longhair because of that SICK foldover. You see it as he turns his head to admire Volstagg’s mane while walking down that street in New Mexico.
The foldover extra in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Tower Keeper - Captain America: The First Avenger

You may recognize this man/mane from such classic roles as Argus Filch in Harry Potter or the devious Walder Frey from Game of Thrones. Here he does an absolute bang up job of protecting the Tesseract (Space Stone) from Johann Schmidt aka Red Skull.
Image

PHASE 2

Y2K Happy Hogan - Iron Man 3

Here we have the absolute privilege of seeing Tony Stark’s best friend and head of security lettin’ it ride with a sick 90’s mullet.
Image

Aldrich Killian/The Mandarin - Iron Man 3

Blonde curls don’t work for everybody, but they work here for AK. We’re sure Iron Man 3’s main antagonist donated those locks before becoming a super baddie.
Aldrich Killian in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Trevor Slattery/The Mandarin - Iron Man 3

A longhair, with a good heart, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. T-Dog is just trying to party!
Image

Killian’s Bodyguard - Iron Man 3

2 words: Ponytail Express.
Killian's bodyguard in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Malekith - Thor: The Dark World

The King of the Dark Elves. We’re not huge fans of this evil being, but those braids are sick.
Image

Algrim Dark Elf - Thor: The Dark World

Malekith’s right hand man. See Malekith’s description.
Image

King Bor - Thor: The Dark World

Grandpa Bor is responsible for pushing back the Dark Elves and passing on those follicle genes to the likes of Odin and Thor.
Image

Pretty Much ALL the Dark Elves - Thor: The Dark World

They’re lettin’ it ride, boys. Gotta give it to them.
Image

Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier/White Wolf - Captain America 1, 2, 3, Black Panther, Avengers 3 & 4

After *leaving the military, Bucky let loose. He’s almost completely done with the awkward stage by Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He lathered his hair up with the Wood Shop hair serum before fighting off the Outriders in Wakanda. Gotta look good before you get turned to dust.

*Falling to his demise and getting brainwashed by HYDRA.

Appear as a blur to the naked eye when you accelerate to light speed in this space print headwrap.

Aaron, Apple Guy - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

A mane like this doesn’t go unnoticed, Aaron. You’re the specimen, not Steve. When Aaron clocks out at Apple, you can see him rocking The The Flow Like Water Headwrap.
The Apple guy in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Horuz’s Mate - Guardians of The Galaxy

You’re about to find out just how much the Ravagers are down with the flow. It starts here, with Horuz’s Mate. I mean look at that silver flow!
Image

Prisoner with Dreads - Guardians of The Galaxy

Free these dreads from the Kyln Space Prison!
Image

One Eyed Ravager - Guardians of The Galaxy

He may only have 1 eye, but he’s got a full head of lettuce!
Image

Luis’ Cousin Ernesto - Ant-Man

Ernesto’s got tips, like LEGIT insider information. You think he’s got some good tips for curly hair? Like, super legit tips?
Image

PHASE 3

Kaecilius - Doctor Strange

This master of the mystic arts is also a master of the flow. We respect his rise against the no hair contingency. That means you, Ancient One. Kaecilius ties off that men’s tail with none other than the cosmic "Outer Limits" Hair Ties For Guys.
Image

Awkward Stage Doctor Strange - Doctor Strange

You were almost there, Stephen. Forget everything you think you know about hair. If you just held on a little longer! Oh well.
Image

Hamir - Doctor Strange

Not the Ancient One. But a legendary longhair that manipulates magic with one hand and an incredible high-ball.
Hamir in Marvel movie characters with long hair

TaserFace - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Come on, bro! That’s the name you picked? We included TaserFace because he grew it out even though it’s just down the middle. It looks like he may be incapable of growing it out on the sides due to some serious burns. When he’s hanging with the other Ravager Bros, he’s always rocking his Metal Mania T-Shirt.
Image

Ego - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

A living planet, a Kurt Russell incarnation, Peter Quill aka Star Lord’s dad, and a longhair. Very invested in the expansion of his hair-itage.
Ego in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Basically ALL of the Ravager Bros - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Watching this movie, we almost lost count. Let’s just say there are a lot of longhairs in the Galaxy.

The Ravager Bros in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Jason - Spiderman: Homecoming

Don’t worry about getting turned down by Betty for homecoming. With hair like that, you’ve got options, bro! Was his hair longer pre or post-blip? Either way, it looks like he’s using the right conditioner.
Image

Aaron Davis - Spiderman: Homecoming

This laidback longhair and small time crook is the guy we hope introduces Peter Parker to his nephew, Miles.
Image

Vulture Henchmen - Spiderman: Homecoming

Make sure to tie that hair back, you wouldn’t want to get it caught in one of those dangerous Chitauri weapons.
Image

Prisoner - Spiderman: Homecoming

You think I’m just gonna let this one pass by? Kudos to this bro with the flow.
Image

Heimdall - Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War

We waited for this one, like we waited for Heimdall to grow his hair out. The gatekeeper of Asgard sports a full head of dreads in Thor 3. He ties those locs back with the all-new "Formal Affairs" headbands from The Longhairs.
Heimdall in Marvel movie characters with long hair

The Formal Affairs

Grey and black thin headbands, as classy as your tuxedo t-shirt and the swanky affair you wear it to. Equally effective as XL hair ties.
get that swank dog!
The Longhairs Headbands

Erik Kilmonger - Black Panther

T’Challa’s cousin rocks a unique style throughout the movie. We’re giving him cred here cuz it’s long enough to tie it up. This total bad-ass has patience, drive and determination. Which makes him a true longhair at heart. Even if his motives are a little misguided.
Image

Redheaded Extra - Black Panther

How could I possibly miss this one. Among the most obscure Marvel movie characters with long hair, and yet that fiery red mane DEMANDS attention. If you magnify this photo up to x1000, you can see he’s got The "Let It Rides” Hair Ties For Guys holding back that incredible menstail.
Image

M’Baku’s Jabari Guard - Black Panther

This longhair is about to be severely disappointed when M’Baku taps out to T’Challa’s superior fighting skills.
Image

Casino Gate Keepers - Black Panther

Looks like the path to the underground gambling world goes through 2 very serious longhairs. If you look closely, you can see that dudes epic highball on the right.
Image

The Let It Rides

Keeping it on brand with The Longhairs official brand colors, The Let It Rides include gold, navy, crimson and stone hair ties.

Launched Klaue Goon - Black Panther

Image

W’Kabi’s Border Tribe Guard - Black Panther

What’s the deal with longhairs only being antagonists? This is getting to be too much. Although, this longhair sure looks mean with it all tied up like that.
Image

Longhair Ballers - Black Panther

These kids get it.
Image

Awkward Stage Captain America - Avengers: Infinity War

We’d be stoked to see Cap become one of the Marvel movie characters with long hair. Yo, Cap! You need an incubator? Hit us up. We’ve got you covered. We’re stoked that you have started this journey. We didn’t realize it would take as much trauma as Civil War brought on to get you to let loose a little bit. Let us know when you’re ready for a hair tie. We’re looking forward to seeing a mane from you that would put Thor to shame. If you survive, that is.
Image

Eitri - Avengers: Infinity War

Eitri is the King of the Dwarves and Nidavellir’s last survivor. He helped Thor create the powerful StormBreaker hammer. Some say he transfers the power from his mighty mane into the incredible weapons he creates. It’s been a long time on that ring with very few haircuts. We would send him some gear, but shipping is too expensive.
One of the great longhairs of Marvel movie characters with long hair

Wakandan Warriors - Avengers: Infinity War

I spotted more than a few highballs in this line-up. You’re in Wakanda now, where the hair is long and the loyalty is forever. Shout out to these warriors who put it all on the line.
Wakandan Warriors in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Longhair Burch Goon - Ant-Man & The Wasp

We appreciate manes of all shapes and sizes, but FINALLY a dude with an epic flowing mane! Even if he is a lowly goon of the lowly Sonny Burch, we haven’t seen anything like this since ‘ol Stan Lee cut off Thor’s mane.
A goon in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Highball Burch Goon - Ant-Man & The Wasp

This guy missed the Wasp and wiffed on his hair tie selection.
Image

San Francisco Bay Tour Guide - Ant-Man & The Wasp

I’m not sure what’s going on in the front, but he’s definitely having a party in the back.
Image

Sonny Burch - Ant-Man & The Wasp

At-tuh-tuh-tuh Sonny, give it back. That lab isn’t yours. But you know what? We’ll hook you up with a couple packs of Hair Ties For Guys if you grow it out for just a few more months.
Image

Bron-Char - Captain Marvel

1/5th of Vers Kree StarForce teams. He makes up for ⅓ of the hair, though. Wish we got to see more of him throughout the movie. When he’s not kicking Skrull butt, he’s got his feet up at home and his hair tied up with the all-new "Viper" tie-off headwrap.
Image

New Asgardians - Avengers Endgame

These New Asgardians have found home in Norway after a pretty rough five to seven years to say the least. Their hair tells the stories of their peril. Here they are watching as a giant green genius Hulk and Rocket Raccoon try to recruit Thor to help restore the universe.
Image

70s Hank Pym - Avengers Endgame

Yes, that would be the hair that you are looking at. Dr. Pym doesn’t have time for funny business. You can see his hair bouncing around as he runs towards Cap’s distraction.
Image

70s Extra - Avengers Endgame

Sneaky, but in this expertly played game of ‘Where’s Long Hair?’ no detail can be overlooked.
Image

Classmates at School - Avengers Endgame

As Peter Parker returns to school post blip, so do these longhairs. Both of these guys are well on their way to a flowing super-mane. If I saw them in person, I’d hand ‘em a pack of The Two Tones, so they have them when they need them.
Obscure longhairs in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Ixtenco Clean-Up Crew - Spiderman Far From Home

An elemental has made a pretty hairy situation for this clean up crew in Mexico. They’d hardly be the first longhairs in hard-hats to tie it up with #HairTiesForGuys.
Image

Awkward Stage Flash Thompson - Spiderman Far From Home

Flash is growing up, sneaking into first class, and most of all - growing HIS HAIR OUT. The Longhairs have discovered notable differences in the hair department for Flash Thompson from Homecoming to Far From Home. We are hoping to see his hair touch his shoulders in the upcoming No Way Home.
Image

Classmate Josh - Spiderman Far From Home

Josh may not have any lines in this movie, but his hair is LOUD. Couldn’t go without a nod to this Longhair.
Image

Dimitri The Bus Driver/Fury’s Agent - Spiderman Far From Home

Not big on talking, but he is BIG on hair. Dimitri keeps it tied up, and holds it down while he keeps an eye on Peter Parker and his classmates.
Dimitri in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Mysterio Goon - Spiderman Far From Home

I bet he has been growing his hair out waiting for the day they could get their revenge on Stark. Not a bad plan, honestly.
A goon in Spiderman Far From Home in Marvel movie characters with long hair

Stan Lee

Hey Stan, we’re thankful you like, created all these characters. But cutting off Thor’s mane was seriously uncool. Beware of the Marvel boss, and his wild sheers.

Honorable Mentions from MCU TV:

Foggy Nelson - DareDevil

Matthew Murdock’s right hand man, best friend, seeing-eye-guy, and law firm partner.
Image

Luke Cage - Luke Cage

While Luke Cage was falsely imprisoned, he let it ride. Developing the impressive afro you see here. Even though he normally takes sides with the no-hair contingency, we know he’s a longhair at heart.
Image

Awkward Stage Punisher - The Punisher

You were THIS CLOSE to growing it all the way out, Frank.
Image

David Lieberman aka Micro - The Punisher

Micro has the kind of curly thick hair you only read about in books. Yet, he pulls it off with ease. We’re sure this is one of the top 10 features his family missed about him.

Who did I miss? Hahaaaa j/k I didn’t miss anyone. Ok but who SHOULD grow long hair who hasn’t yet?

Comments

  1. I know it’s not Marvel. But I’m making an epic honorable mention here.

    Aquaman

That mane is coveted by many of us longhairs 😂
    It certainly is by me.

    1. El Campeón! Yes, not Marvel, but arguably the top longhaired superhero of the 21st Century. Thanks amigo, keep lettin it ride!

      1. No, thank you El Rubio!
You guys are badass, thank you for what you do, everyone of you.

        Let it ride brother 🤘🏼

  2. My sister sent me this link the other day. I was certainly surprised when I scrolled through and saw myself staring back at me from my phone screen. I was the vulture henchman working on the weapons in Spiderman: Homecoming. Surprised, yet extremely pleased to have made the list of Marvel longhairs.

  3. They might have to recast the part, though. I love Ty Burrell, but he might not have the, ahem, look, required for the Doc, unless they could do some truly mean CGI enhancement.

  4. Of course, there are MANY who haven’t been in a movie, yet also sport the fantastic locks.

I am thinking first of Doc Samson here, and yes, although Leonard Samson DID appear in The Incredible Hulk, he didn’t have any of the flowing green we know and love. Fingers crossed that we get him someday. I mean, a hero whose powers grow as his hair gets longer? Don’t YOU feel that way? I know I do sometimes…

    1. Author

Samson would be SICK to bring to life! I also hope there’s a chance that Adam Warlock has long hair as his character was hinted in Guardians 2.

  5. A couple years ago I cut off almost 20 inches of hair to donate and I’ve decided to grow it out again. I found the Longhairs doing some research and I’m thrilled because this is a solid, beautiful organization and this post seals the deal. I’m so ready to start letting it ride. Thank you Longhairs!

  6. This was fun and informative for a 75 year old long hair,
Man some of those MARVEL guys are uuuggglyyyyy. Long hair or not.

Hey just wanted to add – All my life I have had various hairstyles of the times.
Crew Cut, Princeton, Afro Perm, Shoulder Length, Shaved Head. I saw your website and how to take care of long hair.
Bought your bands and let the white grow. It’s now about 14 Inches feels good and very liberating. OK OK it’s not as thick or luxurious as you guys or the guy who posts ‘Mane Updates’ but it’s cool and MY hippy reflection.

  7. Attempt? HA! There is no try.

Good job, El Chuckarino. I heard the voice of the Moviefone guy as I was reading.

I’m at the Bucky stage. Bangs just past my nose. I’ve been waiting for this stage. The best actor with this look was Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli in hero’s. That rebellious, I don’t give af look. You know the person you’re talking to wants to snip your bangs off right there, and you kind of enjoy their torture.

I’ve missed a lot of these shows. Is there a site with a good chronological watch list?
