Vote: Hair Ties Design Contest

We are pleased to present the entries we’ve received in the Hair Ties For Guys Design Contest & Community Showcase. 16 design collections were submitted, along with 10 individual hair tie designs.

Participants applied their creative artwork to The White Ties, a newly released product inspired by one of The Longhairs’ core values: Creativity and authenticity.

We’re deeply grateful for all the designs we received. We saw great care and attention to detail, ideas we had never thought of, and some masterfully creative designs.

Community Vote

The results of the community vote were tabulated and the results were no less than shocking. With over 750 votes cast, the totals were revealed on Selection Sunday LIVE, available via reply below for your entertainment.

Hosted by El Chuckarino and Jefferson Jay, the show is packed with all the juice you would expect from the boys, culminating in a surprise announcement from The Longhairs.

The Designs

Here we present the designs, inspiration and who created them.

Category: Hair Tie Collections

A) Land Before Ties

Designer: El Flaco

I mean, dinosaurs are just cool. Who doesn't love dinosaurs? Scales, claws, sharp teeth and cartoon brontosauruses are all abundant here.

B) Shuffled Library

Designer: Nano Ocho

I was thinking of what would look good as a hair tie and design, that would also look great as a bracelet to add a subtle flavor to any outfit. I decided that the designs needed to pop, and have a unique flow and simplicity that could be enjoyed from near and afar. Not only are they eye catching but have a meaning. If you know then you know.

C) Polynesian Style

Designer: Danny 2 Step

Inspired from the traditional style of Polynesian tattoos.

D) Gothic Ties

Designer: Ryan

I'm a fan of gothic art and culture so of course a gothic theme was the first thing I thought of. The top tie is a simple black and orange striped tie, common goth colors and of course Halloween colors. Below that we have a pentagram pattern, pentagrams are a staple in gothic culture. Next we have the triple moon pattern and lastly we have skulls with bat wings.

E) Garden Grows

Designer: Ella

I noticed The Longhairs didn’t have any fruit designs, so I started with the fruits hair tie. Then I realized that fruit grows, so decided to make hair ties with trees and flowers, which also grow in your garden. Hence The Garden Grows!

F) Wide Worlds

Designer: Jess

I wanted to showcase some of the beautiful things we see on planet Earth, including a starry night, a sunset, rainbows and the Earth!

G) Moreno's

Designer: El Moreno

A blend of patterns, stripes and checker board tapped off with the signature laced in two tone coloring.

H) Horror Show

Representation of my personal taste for horror and metal.

I) Two Tone

Inspired by painting and photography these represent the tonal nature of colors through digital medium and physical.

J) Eat More Chicken

The cows forced me to do it.

K) Bike Life

Designer: Ratty Maty

My inspiration is my passion. My bike is my love and there are no plans of slowing down.

L) Logos

Designer: Jack

The Logos combine the masterfully designed bound shears logo with iconic Longhairs color schemes to produce a simple but memorable pack.

M) Highlander

Designer: Brad

A collection of hair ties with Scottish flair for the Highlander (and Outlander) in us all!

N) Irish Rovers

Designer: Brad

A collection of hair ties themed with Irish designs and colors for the Leprechaun in us all!

O) Natural Flow

Designer: Corrin

My inspiration is comes from embroidered art, paintings and dioramas.

P) Adventurer

Designer: Kristi

Wanted to create a collection that represented simplicity and beauty of the natural world around us. We must go out and live it, be it and strive for our adventure.

Category: Individual Ties

A) Checkers

Designer: El Moreno

A simple checkered pattern with deep red tones on the inside of the tie. This makes it somewhat reversible. Solid on one side, pattern on the other.

B) Knight's Tie

Designer: EL Rubio

This hair tie is emblazoned with fraternity insignia, representing both Sigma Nu Fraternity and the fact that The Longhairs is a fraternal community as well.

C) Silver Hatching

Designer: Kristi

Wanted to create a simple design with texture and dimension. Sketched a hatching pattern.

D) River to Waterfall

Designer: Kristi

What if the design could take you on a journey and show you a beautiful scenery? This scenic journey takes you down a river of fish and leads you to a waterfall.

E) Jungle Treasure

Designer: Kristi

This adventure story takes you on a walk through a jungle and leads you to a lost treasure.

F) Blood Bath

Designer: El Danny D

You just can't go wrong with horror.

G) Menace

Designer: Holden

This hair tie design represents the menacing behavior my mom has to deal with every single day.

H) Arrow Eyes

Designer: Kristi

Inspired by adventure books where characters commonly use bows and arrows, and their eyes reveal pieces of the truth.

I) Fun Friday

Designer: Ella

I made this hair tie with donut designs, because every Friday my mom takes us to get donuts because it’s Fun Friday!

J) Autism Awareness

Designer: Josh

The puzzle pattern reflects the complexity of the autism spectrum. The different colors and shapes represent the diversity of the people and families living with the condition.

Are We Having Fun??

This little contest was a profoundly worthwhile experience. It gave us a chance to put creativity and authenticity into practice, and in doing so has involved this community in the pursuit of The Longhairs core values. We’re very thankful for that.

We appreciate everyone who submitted designs and voted (still can’t believe over 750 votes!) and there is no doubt you’ll see another one of these in the future.

Looking ahead, we’ve passed ALL the designs we received over to El Gustavo, to see what we can whip up for our next round of new hair ties collections.
